How do painters estimate a job?
Measure wall and ceiling area, estimate gallons of primer and paint, then add labor by square foot or by room. Prep and trim work are usually priced separately.
Should I charge separately for prep?
Yes. Patching, sanding and priming are real labor and the biggest driver of a quality finish. Listing prep separately justifies your price against lowball bids.
How many coats should the estimate assume?
Two finish coats is standard; note it in the line item. If the client wants a dramatic color change, add a primer/extra-coat line.
